ATTENDANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

School is in session from 8:20 – 3:15

A.  NCUJHS GENERAL ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

·         Parents or guardians are requested to call the school (766-2276 EXT. 101) and explain the nature of a student absence, tardy or early dismissal.  Please try to make this call as soon as you know your child will be absent.

·         The school shall call the parent or guardian at home or place of employment to confirm an absence or

tardy if a phone call is not received.  If there is no telephone available, the school shall send a form requesting

an explanation of the reason the student was absent.

·         It is the student’s responsibility to make up all work missed and to initiate specific arrangements to do so with the teacher involved.

·         Students will have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent.

·         Attendance Review Procedure

a.     The name of any student who has significant absences is forwarded to the Superintendent.

b.     The Superintendent or his designee sends a letter to parents of students with excessive absences.

c.    Continued absences shall result in consideration for truancy review.

B.  TRUANCY:  Truancy refers to any unexcused absence.  Habitual truancy is defined as repeated, unexcused absences by a student.  When a determination is made by the administration that a student is habitually truant, notification of truancy will be made to Department of Children and Families (DCF).

C.  CLASS TARDY:  Students who are late to class must have a pass from the teacher or administrator who detained them.  If the student arrives without a pass, he/she shall be assessed one tardy. Three tardies will result in a detention being assigned.  Parents will be contacted.  Additional tardies may result in additional disciplinary action.

D.  CLASS CUT:  Students are expected to attend all classes.  Any class cut will result in notification to parents/guardians and a consequence assigned by administration.  Repeated class cuts will result in further disciplinary action.

E.  PARTICIPATION IN ACTIVITIES ON DAY OF ABSENCE OR SUSPENSION:  To participate in any after-school activity, students must attend school on the day of the activity.  Students who are suspended in or out of school cannot participate on the days of suspension.  Students who sign in late or sign out early, without an excusable reason, cannot participate that day.  Activities include athletics (including practice), dances, and other club or student meetings after school.   An administrator must approve exceptions to this procedure.

F.  LEAVING SCHOOL:  Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds once they have arrived unless a written note is received from parents/guardians.  This includes the time between the close of school and athletic practices or games.  Leaving school grounds without permission shall result in a consequence assigned by administration.

TRANSPORTATION OFF SCHOOL GROUNDS BY ANYONE OTHER THAN THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN REQUIRES A NOTE OR A PHONE CALL.  Phone contact must be made with school personnel.
