BUS TRANSPORTATION:
STANDARDS OF STUDENT BEHAVIOR ON SCHOOL BUSSES:
Maintaining student control on the bus is the primary responsibility of the bus driver. While riding on a school bus, students are under the authority of the bus driver and are expected to comply with his/her requests regarding behavior. Students may be assigned seats at any time at the discretion of the driver or school administration. Students are expected to be at the designated bus stop when a bus arrives and bus drivers are expected to follow the time schedules. Buses will not wait for individuals.
The following behaviors
are not acceptable:
· Eating or smoking while riding in a bus.
· Drinking and open containers.
· Littering on the bus.
· Making loud and boisterous noise and/or using inappropriate language.
· Vandalizing a bus.
· Standing and/or moving around while a bus is in motion.
· Hanging out of and/or throwing objects out of bus windows.
· Using emergency exits unless for drill purposes and/or at the direction of the bus driver.
· Intimidating and/or fighting with other students.
· Throwing any object within or outside a bus.
· Spraying any aerosol or non-aerosol substances.
The main purpose of the above regulations is to ensure the safety of the students while traveling in school buses. Nothing should be allowed which will distract the attention of the driver. The secondary purpose is to protect the bus from damage. Students may lose the privilege of riding a North Country bus by demonstrating any of the inappropriate behaviors listed above. The driver, transportation foreman, and the administration will address behavior infractions. Disciplinary action will be communicated directly to the student, parent, and/or legal guardian.
Consequences are as follows:
· First offense - Warning and/or one-day minimum suspension of bussing privileges.
· Second offense - Five-day minimum suspension of busing privileges.
· Third offense - Busing privileges suspended for the rest of the semester and/or a minimum of 45 school days.
Consequences could vary up to and including suspension from school depending on the severity of the disciplinary violation.
It should be noted that a student shall not be put off a bus en-route for disciplinary reasons.
ACTIVITY TRANSPORTATION: When students participate in a school-sponsored activity which necessitates
being transported, they are to travel by school transportation. The ONLY exception will be if a parent or guardian gives written permission to the administration for the student to ride with the parent or another adult to be transported home.
AFTER-SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION: A bus leaves NCUJHS at approximately 4:30 to accommodate students involved in activities or after school study. Jay students may need to make a connection at NCUHS. Newport Center students will be dropped off at a central spot in town. There is no after-school transportation to Brownington.
