ü For each course three (3) grades will be given: academic, conduct, and effort.
· Academic grades will be assigned based on a 0-100% scale.
· For a full-year course, adding the 4 quarter grades together and dividing by 4 will determine the final year average.
ü A final year average of 60% must be earned to successfully pass any course.
ü Conduct and effort grades will be assigned based on the following scale:
A = Excellent conduct/effort C = Average conduct/effort F = Failing conduct/effort
B = Good conduct/effort D = Unsatisfactory conduct/effort
ü Parent Updates will be sent home twice during each marking period to report on academic progress or course information.
ü At the end of each quarter, students will receive a report card. The report card envelope shall be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the TA teacher. Parents and students are encouraged to contact teachers whenever there are questions about grades.
ü Teachers may give a student a grade of incomplete if the student has not completed all of his/her quarterly work.
A. Incompletes will only be given for an acceptable reason (illness, extenuating circumstances, etc.).
B. Incomplete work should not date back more than two weeks unless there are extenuating circumstances.
C. Incompletes should not be given if the student has no chance of passing a course.
D. All incompletes must be made up within two weeks of the end of the marking period or the grade will become an "F." Exceptions to the two-week rule will apply in cases of health problems or extreme hardship.
E. Incompletes may not be given to any student to allow time to do extra work in order to improve the grade.
NON PROMOTION INFORMATION
ü All students should understand that lack of academic progress in the seventh and eighth grades may result in non-promotion. Further, any student not promoted shall not participate in the 8th grade recognition ceremony.
Non-Promotion Procedures:
A. Consideration
1. Students will be considered for non-promotion if they are failing, receiving below 60%, in two or more full year components. (Refer to GRADING section)
2. Members of the staff (teacher(s), guidance counselor, and administrator) may recommend consideration for non-promotion. Recommendations for consideration for non-promotion will be made no earlier than by the end of the second quarter and no later than following fourth quarter interim reports. Parents/guardians will be notified of any consideration for non-promotion at the time the recommendation is made, and invited to a meeting where a plan of action to address the student's needs will be developed.
B. Review: A final staffing review may be conducted during the fourth marking quarter. Parent/Guardians will be notified of the final decision.
